1990 Corvette - Purchased 6-3-2001 - 4th Owner

The car is originally a Canadian car, taken to Florida early in its life.  Possibly by a retiree, driving it only in the winter while in Florida.

He sold it in March of 1995, with a reported mileage of 19,400.  It appears to have stayed in Florida until 1998, or early 1999 at which time it was moved to Reading, PA and covered.  It was apparently not used for over 1 year until sold again.

Third owner was a Manheim Township, PA resident with 37,422 miles reported on 3/22/2000.  He maintained the car and repaired some items: Heater core, new tires (Goodyear GS-C mounted wrong, see below), Valve cover gasket, new battery, 2 new amplifiers for the door Bose speakers, some minor nuts and bolts, and disabled the automatic headlight switch by using tin foil to short the sensor, I repaired and installed a switch later, allowing me to use or not use (as I choose) the automatic headlamps.

I purchased it with 39,050 miles on 6/3/2001 and have done the following so far.

  • Lube, oil and checked all fluids every 3,000 miles or yearly, whichever comes first
  • Replaced leaking accumulator (air conditioning)
  • Remounted front tires (on backward when purchased)
  • Topped off brake master cylinders
  • Flushed the fuel system
  • Power flushed the auto trans system, most of the klunking went away once this was done.  I understand they are noisy anyway.
  • New exhaust is being installed with FlowMaster mufflers,
Wanted straight pipes, but seems they might be illegal.  FlowMaster 40s installed and yes, they are loud enough.  Need to turn the radio up to hear it.
  • Need to redo the headlight actuators, ordered a new gear to see if that works.
** New gear worked so well, replacing the right side and now both headlights are working fine.  When we pulled the old plastic gear out, the original gelpack was nothing but dust.  I plan on replacing the left side as soon as I can.
  • Reattached the main nut holding the convertible top in place.  Left side was OK while right side had come loose and dropped off.
  • Intake gasket starting to leak, 6 hour job at dealer (times $49/hr) so I will need to watch how much oil the engine takes.  -  Now have 40,550 miles on car, after 2 months of ownership, 1,500 miles and tons of fun.
  • Replaced passenger's side door jamb switch
  • Replaced the rear speakers, they were disconnected and hissy when connected
  • Replaced headlights with Hella European, much better light!
  • Replaced air filter and cover with high flow parts, K&N and 94 stock cover
  • Replaced the antenna mast (mast only, not motor), now it extends fully
  • Added an antenna ground plane kit, better reception
  • Replaced the right and left door glass weatherstrip
  • Replaced tired looking headlamp bezels with new OEM parts
  • Installed switch to disable "automatic" headlamps when necessary (parades), did I mention it was a Canadian car?  Auto-on lamps and driving lamps are standard equipment in Canada many years before the US
  • Replaced the spark plus wires with new TPIS wires
  • Replaced the MAP sensor - engine was running rough
  • Replaced the battery with a DieHard Gold series
  • Replaced the starter with a reconditioned GM starter
  • 2 new tires at 52,500 miles in 2004
  • 2 new tires at 57,000 miles in 2006
  • Replaced console lid spring, old one broke in half
  • Replaced weather stripping on convertible top, rear bow
  • Upgraded original wheels with Chrome wheels C/O CWS in Ca.
  • Replaced lug nut covers with chrome covers
  • Installed a convertible top hold up stick, eases loading of packages
  • Added "PA Classic Car" plates in 2005, cars have to be 15 years old, stock 'appearance' and in good shape (not a daily driver).  I had a club banner on the windshield and they refused based on a 'non-stock' add-on. Took it off in 3 seconds and took new pictures, PA then accepted the application.

That is where it stands as of May 2007, except for many washings, waxings and primpings.  Just turned 60,000 miles spring of 2007.  That puts my driving at about 3,300 miles a year over the last 6 years of ownership.  Wow, I have had this car longer than any other owner, amazing!
